Posted @withregram • @out_inthefield We've been Posted @withregram • @out_inthefield We've been looking forward to this event in Southwest England for three years now—and it was well worth the wait! We found it so inspiring to learn from farmer Matt Chatfield (@thecornwallproject) about his regenerative farming system and to witness his beautifully biodiverse pastures and woodlands on the farm tour. Guests even got to help herd his sheep! 

Guest chefs Ben Quinn of local Cornwall hotspot Woodfired Canteen and Adam Dulye of The Brewers Association are both long-time friends of OITF and it was a joy to have them cooking together in the field kitchen. The meal was its own diverse representation of Devon and Cornwall—featuring locally caught fish and all sorts of local produce from Cornish farms as well as Farmer Matt's famous "cull yaw," which they slow-roasted over fire and dressed in a barbecue sauce of preserved fruits alongside cauliflower tabbouleh and harissa. 

And the meal was paired with Cornwall-brewed beer from @harbourbrewing, biodynamic English wines from @limeburnhill and @offbeatwine and local cider from the fine folks at @ripe__cider who joined us at the table. We also got to host quite a few local farmers and food producers; the conversations at the table were as inspiring as our surroundings.

Growing our vines on a high trellising system allows the ground below them to become a rich habitat. At the moment we have Ragwort flowering , the only food plant for the cinnabar moth whose numbers are reducing across the country.

Always such a treat to have these wines from just down the road from us in Bristol. 

After a great vintage Robin and Georgina have been able to release all three pet nats again after the amber had a hiatus in 2020. 7 years since planting they are now reaping the rewards from working with full biodynamics. We visited last week and the vineyard has flourished and matured since we went two years ago. 

This years releases:
- Beltain Amber pet nat 
- Samhain Red pet nat 
- Lammas rose pet nat

They are fantastic wines that showcase the local terroir and incredible environment that Robin has looked after for the past 7 years. 

More bottles than previous years but still small batch so don’t hang around for long if you want to taste them!

I had the most magical Sunday sitting in a biodynamic vineyard @limeburnhill in the Chew Valley, eating a glorious feast cooked over fire while tasting simply fabulous natural wines.
.
 @ubuntu_food , Imke's food just sings with punchy sweet and sour flavours of her South African heritage using sustainably sourced seasonal food. Take a look at the last image for the menu.. it really was insanely good.
.
We spent all afternoon eating, drinking, talking, walking around the vineyard and learning about the way Robin and Georgina grow their grapes. Of course I brought some wine home - all pet-nat ( naturally sparkling)- an orange, a rosé and that ridiculously pretty pinky - red.
.
Can't really pick out one course of the stunning food but perhaps that onglet with the charred packchoy and the damson/ beetroot chutney with the red wine.
.
Now Bristolians I would keep a close eye on @ubuntu_food 's feed-website for future events both at the vineyard and other local venues too.

I sat on a haybale, in the middle of a vineyard with a small group of gorgeous people and was fed the most delicious food straight from the fire, and drank the wine made from the vines I was surrounded by. It was a real pinch me moment, and a Sunday I won’t forget. Thank you @ubuntu_food and @limeburnhill for the most incredible Lammas celebration. It was everything I hoped it would be.

Located on the south facing slope of the chew magna valley, Limeburn Hill is the perfect setting for our summer supper club. Spend the afternoon slowing down, surrounded by nature and celebrate Lammas, the seasonal festival marking the beginning of harvest season. 

As the vineyard (and the wine) develops year on year so has our annual collaboration. An event where we are able to uplift the spirit of place and deliver an intimate experience that fosters a deep sense of connection throughout.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of tasting Limeburn Hills new season wines. We spent the evening exploring flavours and discussing our intentions, pairings and flow for our annual collaboration coming up on the 31st July 

There was something full circle about this moment. A feeling that as our relationship with the land and one another has deepened over the years, so has our understanding of how to elevate its spirit through our magical combinations of fire food and wine. 

This event is shaping up to be the best one yet, we really hope you can join us.

We bash the bark of young willow shoots with a hammer and then bring up to just under 80oC in water, then leave to macerate overnight.
Salicylic acid is released which encourage a Systemic Acquired Resistance response when sprayed on the leaves of the vine - initiating a natural defence mechanism that gets the plant ready for an attack (mildews, in this case).

Summer Feast at the beautiful Berdoulat in Bath, astonishing food by Oak restaurant, delicious gin by Scout & Sage, and gorgeous flowers by Nice Bunch.
It was a real honour to be part of this event, and for Rich at Oak to create such inspiring food pairings for our wines.
